Under Construction A significant stream improvement project will be taking place on the Codorus starting around 2/6 and lasting about 2-3 weeks. The project area is just downstream from Brown Road. The goal of the project is to stabilize and reduce future damage to some heavily eroded sections of streambank. Some great new areas of improved trout habitat should result from this work, and we can't wait to see the results! Stay tuned for further info on the progress.
We would like to hear from you! Use our handy feedback form for your questions, ideas or comments. We also hope you’ll stop by a monthly meeting sometime to see what we’re all about. Non-members are welcome as well. The meetings are casual and always generate plenty of lively discussion. Our other activities are fun, rewarding and a great way to give something back the creek and it’s trout.
Notice: The stream section behind the Porters Sideling Fire Hall (downstream of the bridges) is now OPEN for fishing through mid-September. Update: the section upstream from the bridges is now posted. We are looking into the circumstances that resulted in the loss of access in this section. For now, please obey the signs and keep out. Check back later for further details.
The Jefferson/Codorus sewage treatment plant is now in service, and discharging to the Codorus watershed. This plant obviously has the potential to impact the water quality and living creatures in the creek, especially if an accident occurs. As the housing market rebounds, extensive residential development could also take place around the plant, adding the threat of adverse stormwater runoff. A word on stream etiquette! As you enjoy the Codorus this season, please be aware of where others are fishing and which direction they’re moving in. Plan your entry accordingly and give your fellow anglers a polite distance to fish.
Didymo! This destructive species of algae is right on our doorstep in Maryland’s Gunpowder River. Unfortunately it can easily be spread by anglers! Learn more about dymosphenia geminate (also known as ‘rock snot’) and the preventive measures you must take. Here is an informative fact sheet to learn more. (PDF format) Using wading shoes with non-felt soles reduces the risk of spreading this menace - we hope you will make the choice to do so.
Please respect the rights of landowners when you visit the stream - stay out of plowed fields - remain in the stream corridor, and obey no trespassing signs. When you park, make sure you're not blocking access to fields. Most of all, just use common sense and courtesy - be a thoughtful and appreciative guest. Read more here
